IF YOU HAVE LOST A PET:
1) Put up bright colored posters with a picture of your pet all around your home, at the community center, in the neighborhood, at pet stores & veterinary offices.
2) Immediately, place a LOST ad in the newspaper (LVRJ 383-0383) for several weeks & read FOUND ads daily. Call on any ad that may resemble your pet because descriptions can be deceiving.
3) Notify your veterinarian that your pet is lost so they will know if they are contacted.
4) Search your neighborhood continuously. Pets get scared & will hide under bushes & will not answer your call. Be sure to also look & call for pets at night with a flashlight when it is more quiet & you can hear their bark or meow.
5) Physically visit the local shelters every day, if possible, for your pet. Do not rely on a phone call because many pets look the same & shelter staff is overwhelmed. Our shelters have very few days they can hold a pet & have high euthanasia rates so it is extremely important to check the shelters as often as possible. Many homes may be in the city but near the county line or vice versa so a found pet could easily end up at either shelter.
6) Pets can travel extremely long distances or end up far from home if they accidentally or deliberately get in a car & are transported to another area. Don’t assume your pet would only be at the nearest shelter.
7) Ask neighbors if they have seen your pet.

IF YOU HAVE FOUND A PET:
1) Put up bright colored posters with a picture of the found pet all around your home, at the community center, in the neighborhood, at pet stores & veterinary offices.
2) Immediately, place a FREE FOUND ad in the newspaper (LVRJ 383-0383) for 4 days & read LOST ads daily. Call on any ad that may resemble the pet found because descriptions can be deceiving.
3) Take to a local shelter if you cannot keep until the owner is found or notify local shelters you have found the pet.
